Woman commits suicide in Nangarhar

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): A young woman has allegedly committed suicide in Batikot district of eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Wednesday.

Police spokesman Syed Taib Hamad told Pajhwok Afghan News the woman consumed poison in Barikab area of Batikot district yesterday.

He said security forces launched an investigation into the incident before handing over the dead body to her family.

The woman, who was engaged to a person, apparently committed suicide after her fiancé married another girl, the police spokesman explained.

According to Hamad,: “The girl’s brothers repeatedly told her to break the engagement, but the girl rejected until she fell ill, her family took her to hospital, but she died. The results of the forensic medicine shows she ate poison”.

A resident of the area told Pajhwok there were always arguments in this family because of this problem.

A few days ago, a newly-wed bride killed her husband with the help of another person, but both of them were arrested by police.
