4,000 men, women studying in Baghlan literacy program

KABUL (Pajhwok): At least 4,000 men and women are being imparted education through 193 classes as part of a literacy program in northern Baghlan province, an official said on Thursday.

Education Department’s implementation manager of the literacy education program Eidul Mobin Ahmadi told Pajhwok Afghan News the literacy process had accelerated and the interest of women and men in this program had increased in the province compared to last year.

He said 62 classes for women and 131 classes for men were in session and the students included 1,315 women.

In the nine-month literacy program, 102 male and female teachers have been hired for first, second and third grades, he added.

Meanwhile, Bashir Ahmad, a participant, said he dropped out of school in childhood due to the conflicts and insecurity in the country.

“Since starting learning to read and write together with other colleagues, now I can read a little more than before”.

Also, a teacher named Habibul Rahman Saifi said every morning at 6:00 a.m. he teaches reading and writing to some employees of the Police Headquarters and the participants have improved a lot.
