JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Head of the National Environmental Protection Agency (NEPA) Mawlavi Matiulhaq Khales has accused industrialised nations of air pollution and climate-related disasters and asked them to support Afghanistan.
He said Afghanistan has fallen victim to the industrial progress of developed countries and they should help Afghanistan deal with climate change-related challenges.
He made these comments while addressing climate change-related gathering which was organised by the Capacity Building Environmental Protection and Humanitarian Assistance Organisation in Jalalabad.
Afghanistan has become a victim of air pollution of other developed and industrialized countries, therefore these countries and the international community should provide extensive assistance to this country in the field of climate change.
UNAMA Head for Eastern Zone Kiran Kowats during his address to the gathering said that fighting climate change was vital and he had made a multi-dimensional investigation which would be shared at the national and international level with relevant officials.
Deputy Governor of Nangarhar Mawlavi Azizullah Mustafa said all provincial government institutions’ were ready to cooperate in the fight against climate change.
Qari Ihsanullah Mukhtar, head of the provincial EPA, said that government and non-government institutions cooperation was vital in fight against climate changes.
It is pertinent to mention that climate change has resulted in severe drought, a decline of water, persistent rainfall, flash floods and rising ocean levels and air pollution in many countries, including Afghanistan.
