KABUL (Pajhwok): Iran’s new consul-general in western Herat province has hailed Afghanistan as the most important economic partner of his country.
Alireza Marhamati also renewed Tehran’s desire to expand cooperative relations with regional countries.
He made the remarks during a visit to the Taybad district of Razavi Khorasan province on Monday, IRNA reported.
He said that Iran had always accorded priority to enhanced economic links with neighbouring countries.
He noted the location of Iran and Afghanistan provided a golden opportunity for both countries for greater cooperation and in different sectors.
Considering the cultural, religious and geographical commonalities between Kabul and Tehran, it was important to expand bilateral relation, he believed.
The diplomat added the Dogharoun Border was the most essential trade point between the two countries.
"All necessary capacities should be used for expansion of economic relations between Iran and Afghanistan," the consul-general concluded.
