MAAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Some students in the Chaharbulok district of northern Balkh province have complained about the shortage of teachers and non-availability of school buildings and drinking water.

Lutfullah, a student of Imam Fakhruddin Razi School in the Shaitai village, told Pajhwok Afghan News their school is without a building and faced with a shortage of teachers.

He said: “We have a shortage of teachers, the number of teachers should be increased, we want water wells and school buildings to be built, because we study under tents in hot and cold weather.”

Ahmad Navid, another student of same school, said due to the shortage of teachers and non-availability of building the students of three classes studied in one tent.

“Our school is primary, intermediate school is 10 kilometres away from our village, students like me could not complete school.”

Naseba, another student, also complained against the shortage of teachers and non-availability of building and asked the government to address their problems.

Shah Mohammad, the principle of Imam Fakhruddin Razi School, complained about the shortage of teachers and said this school was without building.

He said: “Our school does not have a building, we only have three teachers in the whole school who teach all the classes, lack of clean water, toilet, stationery, books are also our main problems.”

Chaha Bulok District Education Director Hameedullah Hamasi said there were 48 primary, intermediate and high schools in the district out of which nine were without building and the building of four schools are half completed.

District Chief Ghulam Dastagir Jalali acknowledged the problems faced by the students and said efforts were underway to address these problems.

He said: “There are many problems in Chaharboluk district, some schools do not have buildings, some schools that have buildings do not have a wall around them, many others study at home or do not have access to clean water.”

He said that he has talked with the local authorities regarding these problems, some of them had been addressed while some would be addressed
