Kabul (Pajhwok): The Afghan ambassador in Islamabad says economic and trade relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan should not be held hostage to security issues.

Speaking at the Institute of Regional Studies, Ambassador Sardar Ahmad Shakib touched on economic ties, opportunities and challenges between Afghanistan, Pakistan and Central Asian Countries.

Shakib highlighted Afghanistan’s unique geographical location, saying the country connected the entire region through common projects.

He added rich natural resources and efforts for energy production and water management by the caretaker government would lead not only Afghanistan but the whole region toward stability.

The diplomat discussed Afghanistan-Pakistan economic relations, expressing concern over the late closure of key crossings, sudden tariff hikes, unnecessary cargo checks, issues related to Pakistani visa and searches of goods-laden vehicles.

The ambassador noted the consequences affected the governments and people of both countries,.

Shakib also answered questions from journalists and students, saying insecurity in Pakistan also affected Afghanistan and the entire region. He explained Afghanistan never desired conflict with its neighbour.

According to him, the interim Afghan government follows an economy-centered policy and aims to bring regional countries closer.
