KABUL (Pajhwok): A two-day street book fair has been organized in Charikar City, the capital of Parwan province, in the presence of government representatives, professors, students, youths and teenagers.
This exhibition - which was organized by the Department of Information and Culture of Parwan in cooperation with the Institute of Movement towards Development under the slogan "Staying, reading and building the homeland is better than leaving and going to another country" - ended today (Tuesday).
Atiqullah Safi, deputy head of the Culture and Tourism Department, said efforts were underway to promote the culture of book reading by organizing book fair and similar programs.
He added that the Department of Information and Culture currently maintains four libraries with a capacity of hundreds of books in the districts of Jabal al-Saraj, Bagram, Syasgard and Parwan Center, and there are also two private libraries in this province.
Mustafa Walizada, head of the Azam Library, said: “The leadership of the public library tries to organize street fairs in order to raise the level of public awareness and promote the culture of reading.”
He also added that this book fair was held in two days with the display of more than 1,700 books on various topics
Ahmad Javid Poish, one of the youths, said organizing this exhibition was an important step for youths and we supported holding such programs.
