KABUL (Pajhwok): United States voters go to the polls today (Tuesday) to elect their next president.
Democrat Kamala Harris, the current vice-president, and Republican Donald Trump, the former president, have been running neck-and-neck for weeks, the BBC reported.
Harris and Trump are holding their final campaign events in battleground states, according to CNN. Each needs at least 270 electoral votes to win the presidency.
The swing states of Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin are expected to be pivotal to their path to victory.
Over 78 million Americans have already cast votes early by mail-in ballot or in-person. The first in-person votes were cast in Dixville Notch, said The Times.
As of last week, the VP had a one-point lead in the national popular vote, which projects the overall number of ballots cast across the country.
