PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has arrived in Islamabad for talks with Pakistani leaders on escalating tensiions in the Middle East and bilateral relations.
During his two-day trip, Araghchi would meet Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, the Foreign Office said.
The visit offered an opportunity to boost bilateral cooperation and dialogue on a wide range of areas, including trade, energy and security, a statement from the Foreign Office said.
Official sources told Pakistani media the upcoming Islamic Summit in Saudi Arabia was also expected to be discussed at Araghci’s meeting with Dar.
On his arrival in Islamabad, Iran’s top diplomat said he would hold consultations with Pakistani officials the tense situation in the region.
“We will also discuss regional developments, including threats from the Zionist regime and how to deal with these threats,” the visiting minister said.
Araghchi will also meet Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff Gen. Seyed Asim Munir on issues of common interest.
