GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): A cold storage has been constructed at a cost of one million US dollars to preserve fruits and vegetables in southern Ghazni province, an official said on Wednesday.
Mohammad Zakria Hotak, spokesman for Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock Department, told Pajhwok Afghan News the cold storage was built in a standard manner in Ali Baba area of Ghazni city, the provincial capital.
He said the facility had the ability to preserve 3,000 metric tonnes of products at a time.
Funded by a businessman, the land for cold storage had been given by the government, he explained.
He added the project consumed one million US dollars and had the capacity to preserve agriculture products for eight months.
He urged other businesspeople and organistions to construct more cold storages in the province
Meanwhile, Haji Nisarm, a businessman and builder of this cold storage, said if the government cooperated with him in terms of land provision, he was ready to construct another cold storage.
On the other hand, gardeners of the province are also happy over the construction of this cold storage.
Mir Ahmad, a gardener from Khwaja Omari district, said he was happy for the construction of this cold storage, but only one cold storage was not enough in the province.
Earlier, small cold storages had been set up in the province for preserving potatoes.
