HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): The Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS) announced that 288 newly built houses have been handed over to earthquake-affected families in two districts of western Herat province.
In a post on X, ARCS said 285 of the newly constructed houses were distributed in the Gulran district, while three houses were handed over in the Zindajan district of Herat.
According to the ARCS, the 285 houses distributed in Gulran are located in the Shakrab, Band-i-Afzal and Sang-i-Kotal areas, while three other houses are located in the Zindajan district.
Shahabuddin Delawar, acting head of the ARCS, during the handover ceremony said: “Assisting disaster-stricken, vulnerable, helpless, orphaned families and patients across the country is the responsibility of this organisation.”
In October last year, Herat was hit by a powerful earthquake, which claimed the lives of nearly 2,000 people, injuring around 4,000 others and destroyed thousands of houses.
