KABUL (Pajhwok): At least five Iranian border guards have been killed in an armed attack in Sistan-Baluchestan province, a media report said on Monday.
The ethnic Baluch members of the paramilitary Revolutionary Guard's volunteer Basij force were killed in Saravan city on Sunday night, the state-run IRNA news agency reported.
The troops came under attack while performing evening prayer, Sistan-Baluchestan Governor Mansour Bijar said.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack in Saravan, located some 870 miles southeast of the capital Tehran.
The province, which borders Pakistan, has been the site of occasional deadly clashes involving militant groups, armed drug smugglers and Iranian security forces.
