Man publicly executed over murder charge in Paktia

GARDEZ (Pajhwok): The Supreme Court says a murderer was publicly executed in southeastern Paktia province after being sentenced to death as thousands of spectators looked on.

In a press release, the apex court said the order of retaliation in kind or qisas was implemented today in the sports stadium of Gardez, the provincial capital.

It said the convict named Ayaz, a resident of Mirzaka district, had killed another person named Habibullah with a Kalashnikov.

The press release also said three military courts of the Islamic Emirate had thoroughly investigated the issue and after the approval of the head of the Islamic Emirate, the qisas order was implemented in front of thousands of onlookers.

The statement said the family of the deceased had been requested to pardon Ayaz, but they did not accept so the order of retaliation in kind was implemented.

An eyewitness Muhammada Jan told Pajhwok that government officials and tribal leaders tried their best to convince the deceased’s family to pardon Ayaz, but they did not accept it.

“We came here, the Minister of Interior and other officials were also there to seek forgiveness for the killer, but the family did not accept it, so God’s order was applied to him.”

Another person Syedullah also told Pajhwok that many problems in society could be prevented by implementing Qisas order, but he preferred forgiveness over retributive justice.

Interior Minister Khalifa Sirajuddin Haqqani, some members of the Cabinet and common people attended the implementation of the Qisas order.
