KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Telecommunication and Information Technology (MoCIT) has set new prices for voice calls and internet packages with effect from upcoming year.
Acting Minister of Telecommunication and Information and Technology Maulvi Najibullah Hayat Haqqani announced the new and reduced prices at a press conference here at the Government Information and Media Centre today (Wednesday).
He said they had reduced the prices of telephone calls and internet packages in cooperation with telecom firms.
He added a telephone call would cost was3.50 afghanis per minute for subscribers of a single network before the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) takeover, but now the price had been reduced to 1.30 afghanis.
He continued that previously, the price of one off minute voice call was four afghanis, but now it has been reduced to 1.40 afghanis.
The minister said the price of one GB internet has been cut from 225 afghanis to 95 afghanis.
The price of a text message was 1.30 afghanis between customers within same network and was 1.40 afghanis from one network to another.
According to Haqqani, the above prices will go into effect at the beginning of next year 2025.
Meanwhile, Syed Mansour Rahimi , Human Resources Manager at MoCIT, said the ministry had executed 13 projects in communication sector at a cost of 250 million afghanis since the IEA takeover.
Jalal Shams, ATRA spokesman, said out of 26 million active SIM cards 14 million have been registered with MoCIT and the rest were being registered.
