KABUL (Pajhwok): The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Special Envoy for Afghanistan, Ambassador Tariq Ali Bakhit, has said the country needs sustained global attention and urgent action to ease humanitarian suffering and stabilise its fragile economy.
Speaking at the Coordination Group meeting on Afghanistan held in Istanbul from 28 to 30 April 2026, the Special Envoy called for the continuation of humanitarian assistance, particularly in food security and healthcare, and stressed the need for coordinated easing of restrictions on banking channels along with the provision of alternative livelihoods to support vulnerable families and prevent further economic decline.
He highlighted the key role of OIC institutions and partners, including the Islamic Development Bank, the Islamic Organization for Food Security, and the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, in supporting early recovery programmes.
Ambassador Bakhit reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to continued constructive engagement and close cooperation with international stakeholders to promote stability and lay the groundwork for Afghanistan’s recovery.
