Be kind to Afghan refugees, prisoners, Iran urged

KABUL (Pajhwok): Officials of the Supreme Court of Afghanistan in a meeting with a visiting Iranian delegation have asked Iran to exercise honesty and faithfulness in the return of Afghan prisoners and refugees like it did in the past.

The Supreme Court of Afghanistan wrote on its official website that Sheikh Abdul Malik Haqqani, administrative assistant of the Supreme Court, met with a high level delegation from the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Representatives of the two countries discussed in detail friendly relations between Afghanistan and Iran and the transfer of prisoners.

Haqqani said Afghanistan and Iran were neighboring countries and had many commonalities and throughout history they had friendly relations based on mutual respect.

“We desire good relations with all neighboring countries, especially Iran. We want the Islamic Republic of Iran to work with complete honesty and sincerity as in the past in addressing common issues such as the transfer of Afghan prisoners and other similar matters.”

Haqqani further said: “Afghans went through many difficulties during the past 40 years due to the invasion of infidel countries, forcing many to migrate to neighboring countries, including Iran.”

Meanwhile, Supreme Court head Mohammad Sharif Haqqani said that Muslims were like a single body and should be given their rights and treated according to Sharia.

He added: “The holy religion of Islam instructs us not to treat Muslims badly, but gently. Therefore, we hope that you will treat the Afghan refugees and prisoners in Iran according to the Sharia law.”

Head of the Iranian delegation, deputy minister for justice Askar Jalalian said Iran and Afghanistan had good and brotherly relations throughout history. “We are committed to having good relations with Afghanistan.”

He added Iran was trying to be kind to Afghan refugees and especially Afghan prisoners. Officials of both countries will discuss and exchange views on the transfer of Afghan prisoners and the creation of facilities.
