ZARANJ (Pajhwok): The Environmental Protection Department in northwestern Nimroz has prevented the smuggling of 35 rare birds to Iran, an official said on Saturday.
Environmental Protection Director Maulvi Habibullah Mazhari told Pajhwok Afghan News: “These rare birds had been transferred from southern Helmand province to Nimroz and the smugglers wanted to smuggle them to Iran. Fortunately, they were arrested on the border last night”.
He said the birds were released back into the wild in the presence of civil and military officials today (morning).
According to the director, one person has been arrested on the charge of smuggling the rare species.
Hunting birds and wild animals is prohibited and legal action is being taken against violators, Mazhari added.
