MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Over 3,000 tonnes of wheat would be stored in the wheat storage facility of the bread baking plant in northern Balkh province, an official said on Saturday.
The wheat storage facility of the flour mill has been re-activated after nearly three decades by the orders of the supreme leader of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) Sheikh Mawlavi Haibatullah Akhundzada to prevent hoarding.
The provincial Flour Mill Head Abdul Bari Nasrat said 3036 tonnes of wheat, 1,500 of which has already arrived would be stored in the mill.
Rashid Zazai, an employee of the Agriculture Department Rashid Zazai said the storage of wheat was important to encourage farmers to grow this product and added that the stored wheat is kept to prevent hoarding and for emergency situations.
Wheat storage, laboratory and bread baking are among the most important tasks of the baking plant. About two years ago, the baking section of Balkh bread-baking plant was also activated.
Naseer Ahmad one of the employees, said currently daily around 3,000 breads were baked in the plant and distributed to the government hospitals.
He added the bread baked in the plant was of a high quality and was inexpensive compared to the market price.
Balkh baking plant was established in 1984 but due to some reasons, its operation was stopped for nearly three decades.
