KABUL (Pajhwok): Construction work has been initiated on eight mosques that will cost 260 million afghanis along the Kandahar-Herat highway, an official announced Wednesday.
Funded by the Ministry of Public Works (MoPW), the mosques are being constructed in Maiwand district of southern Kandahar province, Nad Ali district of Helmand, Gulistan and Fararod districts of western Farah province, Khashrod district of northwestern Nimroz province, Shindand district of western Herat province, MoP spokesman wrote on his X handle.
Mohammad Ashraf Haqshanas said the projects would consume nearly 260 million afghanis. He said each mosque would take one year to complete.
He recalled MoP had previously kicked off construction work on six mosques along the Kabul-Kandahar highway.
As many as 76 mosques would be built on main highway of the country in compliance with the order from the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) leadership, he added.
The mosques would be constructed every 70 kilometres along highways for the convenience of travellers and each mosque would have the capacity to accommodate 300 worshipers at a time, the spokesman concluded.
