KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Nearly 1,000 acres of agricultural land and hundreds of residential houses have been completely destroyed as a result of flash floods in northern Kunduz province, an official said on Monday.
Disasters Management Authority head Maulvi Shafiqullah Javad said flash floods caused financial loses to people in Dasht-i-Archi, Khanabad and Aliabad districts.
“The floods destroyed crops on 500 acres of land and damaged 250 to 300 residential houses in Aliabad district, inundated 100 acres of agricultural lands and killed about 100 sheep in Khanabad district, in Dasht-e-Archi district 40 houses were destroyed and crops on 250 to 300 acres damaged,” he added.
The director announced the damage was being surveyed in order to distribute aid by the government and charity institutions to the victims.
Meanwhile, flood-affected families asked the government and charity foundations to pay attention to them in terms of urgent assistance.
Khodai Nazar, a flood-affected person, said: “Flash floods damaged our crops, we have no shelter and food, we need tents and we want the government to address our problems”
“Our request to the Islamic Emirate is to help us, people’s homes and agricultural lands have been destroyed,” Barakat, another affected person, said.
