KABUL (Pajhwok): Alireza Bigdeli has been appointed as Iran’s new ambassador to Afghanistan, replacing Hassan Kazemi Qomi.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Seyed Abbas Araghchi designated Bigdeli as the head of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s diplomatic mission in Kabul, IRNA reeported.
Bigdeli previously served as Iran’s ambassador to Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Cyprus and Turkey. The title of the Iranian president’s special envoy for Afghanistan will be removed.
Bigdeli, as ambassador, will report directly to the foreign minister. Qomi served as Iran’s ambassador and special envoy for Afghanistan.
