MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Recent rain-induced floods partially or completely destroyed 500 residential houses in Sholgara district of northern Balkh province, local authorities said on Wednesday.
District chief Qutbuddin Rohani told Pajhwok Afghan News the floods caused serious damages to houses in 13 villages of Sholgara.
The floods destroyed 500 houses, killed as many animals and washed away crops on 1000 acres of land and also displaced residents, Rohani explained.
Residents of the affected areas have asked the government to help them.
Abdul Rasheed, a resident of Awlia village, told Pajhwok the floods inundated his rice, wheat and soybean farms and destroyed some parts of his house.
He called on the interim government to provide assistance to all of the affected people.
Saleema is another resident who has been displaced and lost all of her belongings of her house to the disaster.
Amanullah is another resident of this area who lost his house in the devastating floods. He also asked the government to help him.
Recent rainfalls and floods caused both life and financial losses to the residents in northern Balkh, Kunduz, Takhar and Faryab provinces of the country.
