GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Work has been completed to maintain and monitor Sardi dam at a cost of 13.5 million afghanis in southern Ghazni province, an official announced on Wednesday.
Ghazni’s River Basin Director Maulvi Mohammad Shafiq Mansour told Pajhwok Afghan News the maintenance and monitoring project of Sardi dam was completed in Andar district on Tuesday.
He said the project included construction of a 713 metre long and six metre wide road and a building for guards of the dam.
Funded by the Ministry of Energy and Water (MoEW), the project consumed 13.475m afs, he added.
On the other hand, residents of the district were also happy over the execution of the project.
Mira Jan, an inhabitant of Sultan Bagh area, urged the caretaker government to implement more fundamental projects for Sardi dam.
He added: “If the canal is completely repaired, it can irrigate agriculture lands in Giro, Dehik, Zankhan districts and addition to Andar.”
Sardi dam is one of the largest dams in the country, which has the capacity to store 260 million cubic metres of water and irrigate around 150,000 acres of agricultural land.
