KABUL (Pajhwok): Iranian state news agency has reported that Kiumars Pourhashemi, a senior military officer of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), has been killed in Syria.
According to IRNA, citing the IRGC, "Brigadier General Kiumars Pourhashemi (known as Hajj Hashem), a defender of the shrine and senior military advisor in Syria, was martyred in last night's attacks by Takfiri Zionist terrorists on the outskirts of Aleppo."
Reports indicate that the senior commander was killed during an assault by "Hayat Tahrir al-Sham," a group opposed to Bashar al-Assad's regime, in the Aleppo.
According to this group, on Wednesday, they launched a large-scale military operation in northern Syria's last opposition-controlled area, advancing into several regions and taking control of some territories.
