LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): The Public Health Department has built 23 health centres in four district of southern Helmand province after Pajhwok Afghan News published reports about people’s problems in the province.
All of the 24 health centres have been built in Nawzad, Musa Qala, Nahr-i-Seraj and Desho districts of the province.
Provincial health director Dr. Said Ahmad Hashimi told Pajhwok that after Pajjhwok reports about the health situation of some residents of the province were published, they constructed 23 health centres in four districts of Helmand to solve the problems of residents.
While thanking Pajhwok for reporting on such important issues, Hashimi said: “The health department took the decision to construct health centres due to limited number of such facilities in these areas. We had only one health centre in Desho district, so we built three more. We also built 7 clinics in Nawzad, 4 in Musa Qala and 9 clinics in Nahr-i-Seraj district.”
He added the Public Health Department also planned to build another health centre in Nah-i-Seraj as well and three more in Nawzad and Musa Qala district each because the current health centres operated in rented buildings.
During the past one year, the department succeeded to build a total of 33 buildings for health centres and clinics across the province.
He added: “Some health centres still operate in rented buildings as construction work on buildings for them is ongoing. Health services cover the whole residents of Helmand.”
At the same time, a number of people in these districts expressed their pleasure about the new health centres, but asked the government to send professional doctors to these clinics and health centres.
Abdullah, a resident of Desho district, said: “Previously only one health entre operated in Deshoo. Now two more clinics are constructed, we are no longer forced to take our patients to Lashkargah or other provinces for treatments.” He also asked the authorities to pay serious attention to medical supplies and doctors for the newly built clinics.”
Helmand is a vast province situated in the south of the country where no considerable development projects had been implemented in the past.
