FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Residents of Jurm district of northeastern Badakhshan province have initiated the construction of a small hydropower dam at their own expense.

Additionally, he added, the dam would also generate around 150 kilowatts of electricity, subject to abundant water availability.
With the project’s completed, about 500 families and six mosques in the locality would be supplied electricity, Samadi added.
Residents will also use the electricity for iron, washing machines and heaters. The contracting company facilitated the collection of the project cost from the people in three installments.
Referring to the dire economic situation of the people, Samadi urged the government to contribute to the construction of the project and help accelerate work on the dam.
Information and Culture Director Eng. Zabihullah Amiri welcomed the project saying the local administration was trying to provide the people more facilities and develop the infrastructure.
Provincial government departments would do all in their power to demand people’s demands and needs Amiri promised.
