KABUL (Pajhwok): An Islamabad court has issued non-bailable arrest warrants for former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi.
The anti-terrorism court (ATC) also issued similar warrants 94 other individuals in a case related to the PTI protest in Islamabad last week.
They include Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, Opposition Leader in National Assembly Omar Ayub, SherAfzalMarwat, Khalid Khurshid, Faisal Javed, and lawmakers Abdul Latif, Fateh Malik, Ali Nasir, and provincial minister Riaz Khan.
According to the Express Tribune, in relation to the protest, the police had submitted to the court a list of 96 suspects, including former president Arif Alvi, ex-speaker Asad Qaiser, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar and several other party leaders.
The ATC judge accepted the police request and issued non-bailable arrest warrants for all 96 suspects involved in the protest-related case.
The protest, described by PTI as a “final call,” took place on November 26 at Islamabad’s D-Chowk, just two days after party supporters launched a march on the capital, demanding the release of Imran Khan.
The protest was dispersed following an operation by law-enforcement agencies. PTI claims at least 12 people were killed during the crackdown, and hundreds of protesters were arrested.
Former military officers Brigadier (retd) Mushtaq Allah, Major (retd) Rashid Tipu, and others, including Zulfi Bukhari, Salman Akram Raja, MuradSaeed, Rauf Hassan, Khadijah Shah, Zartaj Gul and Alia Hamza, are also among the accused.
