JALALABAD (Pajhwok): More than 3,000 tonnes of sweet orange yield estimated in eastern Nangarhar province this season as the gardens conditions are satisfactory, an official said on Wednesday.
Sweet orange orchards spread on 6,000 hectares land of the Canal Department and official said that fresh orchards had been installed on hundreds of acres of land to increase the production.
The gardens owners have been happy about the income and market condition of the sweet orange but people said the prices is high.
Sayed Humayon Ghazniwal, spokesperson of the Canal Department, told Pajhwok Afghan News there was surge in the sweet orange yield of Canal Department gardens in Nangarhar’s Batikot district.
He said after harvesting more surge was expected in the sweet orange yield.
Shah Mahmood, one of the contractors of sweet orange, asked government support regarding irrigation.
He said most unemployed youth had been provide work opportunity in these gardens.
Safiullah, one of the workers, said by working here he got work opportunity which benefited him and his family.
Local residents have complained that besides increase in the sweet orange production there the price also increased and asked the government to control this trend.
