KABUL (Pajhwok): The Supreme Court (SC) of Afghanistan says a woman was among five convicts punished publicly in central Kapisa province.
In a statement, the SC announced today (Saturday), based on the verdict of the Kapisa appeal court, one woman among five individuals were punished publicly on adultery and sodomy charges.
Three of the convicts were also sentenced to one year imprisonment and 39 lashes, the fourth one was sentenced to one year imprisonment and 20 lashes while the fifth one was sent to jail for two years and lashed 39 ties, the statement explained.
The verdicts were executed in the presence of appeal court chief Maulvi Azizur Rahman Haqqani, chief of civil court Mufti Abdul Rauof Saadat and a number of judges, officials, governor’s house representatives and common people.
