Assad flees Syria after losing Russia support: Trump

KABUL (Pajhwok): US President-Elect Donald Trump has said that ousted Syrian President Bashar-al-Assad had fled the country after his protector Russian stopped interest in protecting him, a media report said on Sunday.

On his X, Trump said: “Assad is gone. He has fled his country. His protector, Russia, Russia, Russia, led by Vladimir Putin, was not interested in protecting him any longer, Russia and Iran are in a weakened state right now, one because of Ukraine and a bad economy, the other because of Israel and its fighting success.”

According Reuters Syrian rebels announced on state television on Sunday that they have ousted President Bashar al-Assad, eliminating a 50-year family dynasty in a lightning offensive that raised fears of a new wave of instability in a Middle East gripped by war.

He said the US should not play any role in the developing situation in Syria.
