Second-hand items market flourishes in Herat with arrival of winter

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): The market of second-hand items has flourished with the arrival of winter in western Heart province and many people prefer to buy it due to economic hardships.

Sellers at the second-hand items market say their sales have spiked this year compared to the previous years and people could purchase all necessary items, especially clothes, at this market in Herat city, the provincial capital.

The second-hand items market is witnessing a significant spike in the winter season in Herat city due to people’s poor economic condition to purchase new items.

Abdul Rahim Mohammadi, one of second-hand items sellers in the provincial capital, told Pajhwok Afghan News the market has good customers due to its high quality and low prices.

He said the business experienced a significant spike in the winter season in Herat city.

“All items, from children’s clothes to adults, are available in different sizes and designs. Our sales have increased due to more demand from people this year,” he added.

He explained the economic situation of many families was not suitable, the second-hand items market was the best option for the people and they could purchase the best clothes at a responsible price from this market.

Naveed Ahmad Qurashi, another second-hand items seller, also considered the market useful for low-income families.

He advised families, whose economic situation was not good, to obtain all items they needed at a responsible price from the market.

On other hand, a number of second-hand items market buyers were also happy and added they could get warm clothes from the market to keep themselves and their families warm in winter.

Bashir Ahmad Poya, one of the buyers of second-hand items market in the provincial capital, said: “I could not afford to buy new goods, but I can buy clothes and accessories for myself and my family at a cheap price at this market.”

He expressed his satisfaction with the good quality of the second-hand items and their low prices and added that some shopkeepers sell new items at exorbitant prices, but you could obtain high-quality items at a reasonable price at the second-hand items market.

Meanwhile, Chamber of Entrepreneurs, also reported a significant spike in second-hand items business in the province this year.

Haji Abdul Qadir Akbari, director of the chamber of entrepreneurs, said families can purchase good quality items at a cheap price from this market.

He added the business did not only help poor families, but also support sellers of second-hand items.

He stressed that many families could not afford to buy new goods due to the high price, and the second-hand items market was the best option to meet their needs.
