KABUL (Pajhwok): The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) has noted recent developments in Syria as the elimination of war and instability, congratulating the Hayat Tahrir as-Sham (HTS) movement on overthrowing the Bashar al-Assad regime.
The interim government expressed hope the transfer of power in the country would lead to the establishment of an Islamic system.
Ousted Syrian President Bashar al-Assad left Syria for an unknown destination after opposition fighters entered Damascus, the capital of Syria, on Sunday.
President Bashar al-Assad's 24-year authoritarian rule had ended, Reuters reported, citing a Syrian army officer.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said in a statement: “The caretaker government congratulates the leadership of Hayat Tahrir as-Sham (HTS) movement and people of Syria on the recent developments resulting in the removal of conflict and instability.”
It said the caretaker government hoped the power transition process was advanced in a manner that laid the foundation of a sovereign and service-oriented Islamic government in line with the aspirations of Syrian people.
The statement added: “MoFA hopes HTS unifies the entire population without discrimination and retribution through the adoption of a general amnesty and a positive foreign policy … that safeguards Syria from the threat of negative rivalries among foreign actors and creates conditions for the return of millions of refugees.”
IEA also called on all foreign actors involved in Syria to adopt policies of positive engagement and cooperation with the new leadership.
