PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): A three-day Bacha Khan Peace Festival has commenced in Peshawar, the capital of Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
Awami National Party (ANP) provincial president Mian Iftikhar Hussain inaugurated the event at the University of Agriculture.
The festival is focused on fostering peace, tolerance, cultural harmony and the philosophy of non-violence espoused by Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan, popularly known as Bacha Khan.
Organised by the Pakhtun Students Federation, the festival features bookstalls, traditional food and cultural exhibits.
Speaking on the occasion, Hussain hit out at how Pakhtuns were treated in Punjab and Islamabad. He asked the federal and Punjab governments to treat Pakhtuns with dignity.
Hussain voiced concern at rising terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He claimed terrorism was a lucrative business for certain forces.
