FEROZKOH (Pajhwok): Ghor Governor Hayatullah Mubarak says practical work will kick off soon on retaining walls to protect the historic Jam Minaret.
Mubarak made the announcement during a visit to the site in Shahrak district on Monday, his spokesman Abdul Wahid Hamas told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The governor emphasised on the construction of more retaining walls to preserve the historic minaret.
He said construction work on the retaining walls preserving the minaret would be initiated in near future.
Some parts of the minaret, which were damaged by flash floods in recent years, urgently need reconstruction. The clay minaret, about 800 years old, is located in Jam area.
With a height of 65 metres, the minaret is the second tallest in the world. It was built in the reign of Sultan Ghiyasuddin Ghori.
