KABUL (Pajhwok): Some furriers in Kabul City have been concerned about the dwindling sales and asked people to use their products to help the furrier industry survive.
The fur industry in Afghanistan has a long history. Furriers used the skins of sheep, goats, cows and other animals to make hats, coats, vests, scarves, kurtis and similar products and in the past, foreigners were the most interested in these products.
But now furriers in Kabul are talking about the declining market for their products.
Baz Mohammad, one of the furriers in the Gulfraoshi street of capital Kabul, told Pajhwok Afghan News In this shop, which he inherited from his father and grandfather, he sells various types of clothing made from animal skins.
“In previous years, clothes made from animal skins were sold in the winter and summer seasons because tourists from different countries came and bought them, but now our sales are slightly higher only in the winter season,” he said.
Baz Mohammad said in the past he earned around 30,000 afs profit monthly but now his monthly earning declined to 15,000 afs.
He asked people to use products made of animal skins in winter to help survive the furrier industry.
Amanullah Wahidi, another furrier, said: “Due to the poor economic situation, people are not making purchase, while it is winter and their sales should be high.”
According to him, this industry was inherited from his grandfather and it is essential to preserve this industry, which has a long history in Afghanistan.
He added: “I am hopeful that one day our industry would grow.”
Ghulam Rasoul, a resident of Kabul, said: “Today, I come to Antic Sale Street to buy something for winter.”
Locally made items from fur are of high quality.
