“Afghanistan welcomes the decision of the Russian Federation’s parliament to approve a proposal aimed at removing the “Taliban Movement,” previously referred to as the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, from the list of prohibited organizations in Russia,” The MoFA said in a statement.
This step represented a great development and was meant to removing the obstacle in enhancing bilateral relations between Afghanistan and the Russian Federation.
Interfax news agency reported that Russian parliament voted in favour of a law that makes it possible to remove the IEA from its list of banned organisations.
Parliament’s lower house, the Duma, approved the bill in the first of three required readings.
Russia has been gradually building ties with the interim Afghan government, which President Vladimir Putin hailed in July as an ally in fighting terrorism.
