BAMYAN CITY (Pajhwok): Using their own money, residents of Waras district of central Bamyan province, have started constructing building for a primary school at a cost of 1.5 million afghanis, an official said on Thursday.
Governor’s spokesman Abdul Sabour Farzan Saighani told Pajhwok Afghan News the construction of the primary school began in Sarab area of Waras district today.
This school will have six classrooms and two office rooms and will be built on one acre of land at a cost of more than 1.5 million afghanis. The cost of this project will be fully funded by the local people, he added.
Residents said the building’s construction will be a valuable step to provide a safe learning environment to children.
“Many children are out of schools due to ruined roads and long distances from schools and the construction of this school building will give children the opportunity to access education without travelling long distances,” Abdul Sattar, an local elder, explained.
According to him, earlier, students had to walk for hours to get to school, which prevented many from continuing their education.
Also, Education Director Qari Enayatullah Sahar said construction of this school as the outcome of efforts and cooperation of local people and added that people’s cooperation was important in improving the quality of the education system.
He assured the residents that the school would be equipped with needed facilities.
