GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Leadership of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) has decreed Angor Adda, a dry port in southeastern Paktia province, as transit point for trade with Pakistan, an official said on Sunday.
Deputy Governor Mawlavi Makhdoum Abdul Salaam Saadat told Pajhwok Afghan News that Angor Adda has become a transit port like other transit ports in the country.
He said Angor Adda is a significant route for transit trade.
He said: “According to a special order from the leadership, this gate has also become an official transit point, just like Torkham and Boldak. When a province's road is transited, it leads to the development of the province. Commercial goods will be imported and exported here, so every relevant department will build buildings here, so this would help improve the economic condition of the people.”
Selab Sahel, head of the Paktia Chamber of Commerce, expressed happiness about the recognition of Angour Addah as transit route but added that all necessary facilities should be provided at Angour addah.
He said: “Angor Adda is considered one of the most important trade routes. It was the demand of all traders to make it an official transit route, but warehouses must be built there, a main road must be built from Urgun to Sarobi district.”
Angor Adda port reduces distance to Karachi port by 500 kilometres compared to other ports of the country.
