KABUL (Pajhwok): Ex-US House of Representatives speaker Nancy Pelosi has undergone a hip replacement surgery after sustaining an injury during an official visit to Luxembourg.
Her spokesman Ian Kreger said in a statement: “Earlier this morning, Speaker Emerita Pelosi underwent a successful hip replacement and is well on the mend.”
According to the Pelosi was airlifted by the US military to a hospital in Germany after she reportedly tripped and fell on stairs while attending an official event on Friday.
Kreger added Pelosi, 84, is enjoying the overwhelming outpouring of prayers and well wishes. She is determined to ensure access to quality health care for all Americans.
Still representing California in the US House, she was part of a Congressional delegation visiting Luxembourg to mark the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge.
The congresswoman, a renowned US politician, first served as speaker from 2007 to 2011 -- a slot she regained in 2019.
The delegation will attend anniversary events along with veterans, their families and military officials. However, Pelosi will not be able to participate further in the events.
