MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Work on three uplift projects worth 18 million afghanis has been initiated in Mazar-i-Sharif, the provincial capital of northern Balkh province, local officials said on Thursday.
In a ceremony here, an official of the municipality Javaid Mayar said these development projects worth 18 million afs were funded by UNOPS and being implemented in three districts of the city.
The projects include concreting of 1,400 meters of road in Khorasan Karte area, construction of a 640 meter stretch pavement in Aziz Abad area of fifth district and graveling 350 meter long road in Baba Yadgar area of fourth district, Mayar explained.
These projects would generate around 600 employment opportunities for the workers as well.
The municipality plans to implement 43 such development projects in Mazar-i-Sharif and UNOPS wanted to implement 32 other projects, mayor Mohammad Kazim Tariq said.
Some projects have been implemented and work on others is ongoing and a number of other projects will start in near future, Tariq noted.
Nazar Mohammad Hussaini, a resident of the city, expressed his pleasure over the launch of the projects and hoped people’s problems would be solved with their implementation.
About garbage being dumped in sewage canals, Hussaini asked the officials of municipality to pay their attention to that issue.
Jamal, another resident of the locality, was also happy about the projects and said they would generate many employment opportunities for laborers.
