KABUL (Pajhwok): Acting Minister of Interior Maulvi Sirajuddin Haqqani has underscored the critical need for accelerated joint efforts to address security and political challenges between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
He made the remarks at a meeting with Pakistan’s newly-appointed special representative for Afghanistan Mohammad Sadiq Khan, the Ministry of Interior said.
A statement from the ministry said the two sides discussed enhanced cooperative relations and resolving longstanding issues between the neighbouring countries.
According to the MoI statement, Sadiq affirmed Pakistan's commitment to working collaboratively with Afghanistan.
He added: “We are dedicated to resolving the existing challenges between our nations through joint efforts, aiming to bolster economic relations between the two nations.”
For his part, the defence minister acknowledged the religious, cultural and historical commonalities between the neighbours.
He pointed out: “The current circumstances demand swift collaborative efforts to address security and political issues to prevent further harm to our relations and ensure regional stability and progress.”
Both sides also reaffirmed their commitment to cooperation and understanding on further boosting bilateral ties.
Pakistan’s special envoy, accompanied by a delegation, arrived in Kabul on Monday night.
Sadiq wrote on X he would hold meetings with the caretaker government’s high-ranking officials in order to enhance bilateral cooperation and strengthen relations.
