KABUL (Pajhwok): At least 38 people have been confirmed dead after a passenger plane operated by the Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) crashed in Kazakhstan.
The crash occurred near the city of Aktau on Wednesday, as the Embraer 190, en route from Baku, to Russia, went down, Tengrinews reported.
The incident was also confirmed by Kazakhstan's Deputy Prime Minister, Kanat Bozymbaev, who is overseeing the investigation.
He said bodies of the victims were severely burnt and would require identification. Additionally, 29 individuals were injured in the crash, including two children.
Of the injured, 11 are in serious but stable condition. At least six Kazakh nationals were on board, but none of them was among the fatalities.
The crash is being investigated by the Kazakh Prosecutor General’s Office, Interior Ministry and aviation authorities, with Azerbaijani officials also participating in the probe.
The flight, which carried five crew members and 62 passengers, included nationals of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia.
