IEA issues new residential building codes

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) has issued a new decree, banning the installation of windows in residential buildings overlooking neighbouring homes, especially areas that are commonly used by women.

The decree has been published on the X account of the Administrative Affairs Office at the Presidential Palace.

Under the decree, no individual is allowed to place in their buildings windows facing areas such as the courtyards, kitchens, wells and other parts used by women in neighbouring homes.

The decree requires owners of existing buildings, which have such windows, to block the view by erecting walls or using appropriate coverings.

Municipal authorities and other relevant agencies have been tasked with ensuring compliance with the orders. They have been instructed to prevent the construction of such windows in new buildings.

The buildings constructed before the issuance of the decree must be rectified by owners to ensure their compliance with the codes.
