JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Kidnapped two and a half years ago, the body of a man belonging to Surkhrod district of eastern Nangarhar province has been found and returned to his family.
Security officials said one of the kidnappers has been arrested.
The victim, identified as Syed Karim from Mastokhel area of Surkhrod district, had been abducted by kidnappers for ransom two and a half years ago. His family could not pay the ransom money and he was killed in captivity and buried in a house.
Maulvi Azizullah Mustafa, deputy governor of Nangarhar, who handed over the body to the family on Saturday, said that a kidnapper had been arrested by security forces some time ago.
He said the arrested individual had confessed that Syed Karim was kidnapped by their group, and when his family failed to provide the ransom money, they killed him and buried him in a house in Hijrat village of the district.
While offering his condolences to the victim's family, he assured that the kidnappers would be dealt with accordance with Islamic Sharia law.
The family members of the deceased called on the government to find the remaining perpetrators of the crime and award them severe punishment.
Rahmatullah, a close relative of Syed Karim, said the kidnappers had demanded a huge amount of money from the family. He said the family if had sold Syed Karim's house would not have covered the ransom.
He added that the government should give strict punishment to criminals involved in such incidents to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
