GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Work on the construction of a 150-bed hospital has begun in southeastern Paktia province, an official said on Monday.
The four storey hospital will be constructed on 25 Jerib land and funds for the construction and future operation will be provided by the United Arab Emirate (UAE).
Public Health Director Dr. Meraj Gul Adel said the UAE pledged the construction of this hospital during the visit of acting Interior Minister Khalefa Serajuddin Haqqani to the UAE.
He said this hospital would help address the health issues of people to the greater extent.
Dr. Adel said that the hospital is being built at the request of the acting Minister of Interior and at the financial expense of the United Arab Emirates.
He said the UEA government would bear the cost for the hospital’s operation in the future as well.
Acting Minister for Borders and Tribal Affairs Mohammad Sharif Mangal said that the hospital was constructed at the request of the acting interior minister and financial support of the UEA.
He also added that the government has accelerated its efforts for health, education and reconstruction.
Mohammad Azeem, a resident of Gardez, said the hospital would help address the health issues of the people.
He asked other countries and institutions to expand their cooperation with the health sector of Afghanistan.
According to local officials this spring work on the construction of 12 more hospitals would kick off in Paktia.
