Laghman families end 12-year-old feud

MEHTARLAM (Pajhwok): A 12-year-old feud between two families in Alingar district of eastern Laghman province has been resolved, thanks to mediation of tribal elders and religious scholars.

Abdul Malik Niazi, spokesperson for the Laghman governor, told Pajhwok Afghan News that a long-standing feud between two families in Sangara area of Alingar district was resolved today with the help of local officials, tribal elders, and religious scholars.

According to Niazi, the enmity originated 12 years ago between the families of Haji Mohammad Rahim and Malim Habibullah over a land dispute, during which one person from Haji Mohammad Rahim’s family was killed.

He said the families forgave each other and pledged to live in atmosphere of brotherhood.

Meanwhile, the reconciling families expressed gratitude to local officials and tribal elders for putting an end to their prolonged conflict.

Haji Mohammad Rahim said: “Our feud started over land, which resulted in the death of my young nephew. However, I am happy today that our enmity has been resolved through mediation of tribal elders and religious scholars.”

Similarly, Malim Habibullah said: “For the past 12 years, I lived in constant fear day and night, always feeling that I or my family members might be killed. I am glad that the opposing side agreed to reconciliation. My message to everyone is that war and enmity deprives a person of wealth, honor, and property. Live a life of brotherhood and harmony with one another.”

Last month, a 20-year-old enmity between two families was resolved in the same district.
