KABUL (Pajhwok): Rashid Khan's brilliant performance brought Afghanistan to the brink of victory on the fourth day of the second Test against Zimbabwe at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.
Zimbabwe were 205 for eight at stumps on Sunday, needing 278 runs to win the series after the first Test ended in a high-scoring draw.
Captain Craig Ervine (53 not out) and Richard Ngarava (3 not out) will resume on Monday, with Zimbabwe fighting to stave off an imminent defeat.
Khan’s exceptional bowling was the turning point, as he took six wickets in Zimbabwe’s second innings, giving him a match tally of 10 wickets after his earlier 4-94 in Zimbabwe’s first innings.
Earlier, Afghanistan were bowled out for 363 before lunch, having been 291-7 overnight. Ismat Alam (101) scored a fine century.
Zimbabwe's Blessing Muzarabani had a standout performance, claiming six scalps in dismiss the Afghan side.
With Zimbabwe needing 73 runs to win and having just two wickets in hand, Afghanistan are firmly in control of the match.
