$132,000 school building constructed in Bamyan

BAMYAN CITY (Pajhwok): Construction work has been completed on a girls’ school building at a cost of 132,000 US dollars in central Bamyan province, an official announced on Tuesday.

At the inaugural ceremony, Governor Maulvi Abdullah Sarhadi emphasised on the importance of children’s education.

He said the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) leadership aspired for an educated and progressive society compliant with religious principles.

He also stressed the need for maintaining unity and mutual accommodation among the people, saying ethnic, sectarian and regional prejudices had no place in the Islamic system.

All ethnic groups are brothers and enjoy equal rights and status in the Islamic system, according to the governor, who urged harmony among all communities.

Education Director Qari Inayatullah Sahar said his department was striving to create the requisite facilities to promote education.

Abdul Saboor Farzan Sighani, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the school building had been constructed in the Dasht-i-Sefid area of Koh Mard district.

Funded by Argos, the project accounted for $132,000, he said, adding the structure had six classrooms, two administrative rooms, a solar-powered water supply system and other facilities.

However, some residents of the district complain about lack of educational materials.

Abdul Azim, a resident of the district, said due to the remote location of schools and lack of facilities, many students could not pursue an education.
