ACB hires Younis khan as assistant coach

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has hired former Pakistan middle-order batsman Younis Khan as the national team’s new assistant coach for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy.

ACB confirmed to Pajhwok Afghan News the appointment of Younis Khan, who had also served as Afghanistan’s temporary coach at a training camp in the United Arab Emirates in 2022.

Younis Khan, hailing from the Mardan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, served as captain of the Pakistan team.

He scored over 10,000 runs at an average of 52 in 118 Test matches and more than 7,000 runs in 265 One-Day Internationals. He has played 25 T20 matches.

Afghanistan will participate for the first time in the Champions Trophy, which will take place from February 19 to March 9 in Pakistan and the UAE.

Afghanistan are placed in Group B alongside Australia, England and South Africa.

According to the ICC schedule, Afghanistan will play their first match on February 21 against South Africa in Karachi.

Afghanistan’s second match will be against England on February 26, followed by their third outing against New Zealand on February 28.
