Death toll from Tibet quake mounts to 126

KABUL (Pajhwok): The toll from Tuesday’s devastating earthquake in China’s Tibet region has mounted to 126 dead and 188 others wounded, media reports say.

Reuters reported the magnitude-6.8 earthquake rocked Dingri district in the city of Xigaze in the southwestern autonomous region of Xizang at 9:05am local time.

But the US Geological Survey said the intensity of the quake was 7.1 on the open-ended Richter degrees.

Reuters said at least 126 people had been confirmed dead and 188 others wounded in remote parts of Tibet.

The tremors were also felt in Nepal, Bhutan and parts of India.
